Balrampur Hospital Lucknow founded in 1869 is the oldest, largest and the most reputed government hospital of Uttar Pradesh. In February 1948, this hospital was reorganized. At that time, there were a total of three (one PMS-1 and two PMS-2 doctor) doctors. Besides this, three compounders, twenty nurses, one clerical and fifty other employees, including Ward Kuli, Dai, Chaprasasi, Mali, Garden Kuli, Chowkidar, Kahar, Sweepers, Dhobi, Cook, Bearer, Kitchen Bearer, Electrician etc. were the holders. Before the provincialization, two wards were Edinion Ward and European Ward respectively, in which workers employed received separate wages respectively. Since then, the hospital is operating under the Department of Medical and Health of Uttar Pradesh Government.
Presently, it is the Uttar Pradesh government’s largest and most renowned hospital. It is also a Referral Hospital of the state. The complex patients are referred from different districts of the state. The hospital provides treatment related to the specialties and super specialties available here goes. From the time of nationalization till today, the hospital offers services in the form of educational institutions of various medical courses, ayurvedic, Greek and homeopathic. There is also a state medical training center. This hospital also has the distinction of successful treatment of many dignitaries, including many Prime Ministers of the country.
The year 2016 was extremely challenging for the hospital due to dengue epidemic. In contrast year 2017 was year of up gradation. Hospital infrastructure is up graded with A 10-beded dialysis unit, ramp in new building, state of art fire fighting system . Major equipment such as portable digital radiography machine, portable ultrasound machine, RUG x-ray unit, modern state of art dental chair, C-arm Audiometry and PFT machines were acquired by the hospital for public benefit. In super specialty wards more number of beds are now available for patients in AC & general ward. 3 new playground is ready with new toys and swings.
For future plans of dental and dermatology departments are send to government for approval and purchase of equipment. Hospital will upgrade as teaching institute and DNB seats will added for from DNB Board. Dr. Rajeev Lochan Director lead from the front in giving new image and uplifting the status of the hospital.
